Adding within 20 is the core sum skill of the first school year. On these sheets the answers do more than fill a box: they show which cells to colour or which letters to write, so a wrong sum is easy to spot without an adult marking it.

Tips for practising
- Start with sums where one number is small (8 + 2, 13 + 3) before sums that cross ten.
- Let the child count on from the bigger number instead of counting both from one.
- When part of the picture looks wrong, go back to the sums for those cells together.
